Cargo insurance: your goods protected from dispatch to delivery

For those who ship and receive goods, and for those who carry them. We cover goods by road, sea or air and the liability of carriers, logistics operators and freight forwarders, comparing the leading insurers in the class.

Why insure your goods

The carrier is liable, but only up to a limit

It is a common mistake to think that if goods are damaged on a lorry, the carrier pays for everything. Their liability is limited by law and per kilo carried, and in many cases they are exempt.

For domestic road transport in Spain, the Land Transport Contract Act limits compensation to one third of the daily IPREM per kilogram of gross weight. For international transport, the CMR Convention sets it at 8.33 special drawing rights per kilo. For valuable goods, that figure can fall far short of the real loss.

In addition, the agreed Incoterm determines who bears the risk on each leg of the journey. Your own cargo insurance covers the real value of what you ship or receive, regardless of the carrier's liability.

In a nutshell

If your goods are worth more per kilo than the carrier is liable for, you lose the difference. Cargo insurance covers that difference.

Our work

We compare quotes cover by cover, not just on price

We prepare a side-by-side comparison of quotes from specialist cargo insurers and a report on the differences that matter, so you can decide with full information.

  • Terms of cover. All risks or named perils and, for marine, which cargo clauses apply.
  • Insured value. Invoice value plus costs and, where applicable, expected profit.
  • Limits per shipment and per vehicle. They should fit your most valuable shipment, not the average.
  • Excluded or limited goods. Refrigerated, high-value, bulk or theft-prone goods.
  • Theft and stops. Parking, security and timing conditions required by the policy.
  • Deductibles and minimum premiums. Their real impact given your shipping volume.
If goods arrive damaged

The first steps decide the settlement

Note your reservations on the transport document at delivery, keep the goods and packaging, and let us know as soon as possible. Our claims department, with the Group's legal backing, handles the survey, the claim to the insurer and recovery from the carrier.

Frequently asked questions

What clients usually ask us about cargo insurance

If the carrier is insured, do I need to insure my goods?

The carrier's insurance covers their liability, which is limited per kilo and does not apply in every case. If your goods are valuable, your own cargo insurance ensures you recover their real value.

Who should insure the goods in an international sale?

It depends on the agreed Incoterm, which sets the point at which risk passes from seller to buyer. We review it against your usual shipments so that no leg is left uncovered.

What is an open cover?

An annual policy that automatically covers all shipments within agreed terms. The premium is based on the declared volume, with no need to insure each shipment separately.

I'm a carrier. What insurance do I need?

Carrier's liability to your customers for the goods, plus insurance for your vehicles and, if you store goods, cover for goods in your warehouse.

What should I do if the goods arrive damaged?

Record your reservations in writing at delivery, keep everything as it arrived, take photos and let us know immediately. The deadlines for claiming against the carrier are very short.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the type of goods, the mode of transport, the routes, the annual volume and the claims history. We present comparative proposals free of charge.
